CLEARLY, from the content of my last post, I have very little experience when it comes to daycare policies. As it turns out, the fines for being late to pick up your kid are totally NORMAL! Who knew?! (uh, you all did) It made sense when it was pointed out to me that many (MANY) parents are often chronically late if not for this policy. You see, I am chronically EARLY, (even when I try to be late!) so this concept often escapes me. I still stand firm in my opinion that they did not word it very nicely in the handbook. Humph.
That wasn’t even my main concern. Instead of going on and on about the fines, I should have gone on and on about how I didn’t like his teacher much. Maybe I should have told you about how she acted like it was weird that we wanted to meet her before committing to sending our child there. Maybe I should have told you that, while she was talking with us, a baby was crying in her room. For a while. Long enough that I was uncomfortable enough to ask if she needed to go in and check on the crying baby. Her response? “Oh, no, that baby has always been held by her family, we’re trying to break her of it” Wha-What?! That is NOT okay with me. Hold the freaking baby. She is, after all, a BABY. I see the point of not being able to hold the baby all the time, but seriously people, it sounded like something was wrong. At least go in and check on her. Or, pretend like you care in front of prospective parents. There were a couple of other small things too that were just a little off-putting to me.
Whatever, it doesn’t matter. All that matters is that I didn’t like it much, right? Who cares why. We found several other places we liked, but that’s about as far as we got. After talking with my dad, we (he) decided that we should wait until Spring to find a place. So, no more daycare drama for now. I’m sure we’ll have the same problems in 6 months though, so don’t you worry, this won’t be the last time you hear me freak out about it J

haha, so nice of your dad to cave! :)
I take majorrrr issue when people don't tend to crying children. Wow. That bothers me. Babies have basic needs---FULFILL THEM. Geez. Now i'm all pissed off. Haha.
I dont blame you for taking issue with that. hmph.
Ha :) I didn't realize daycares had late fees until we interviewed a bunch of them...I am always early too, so the idea of being late to anything, especially picking up my kid, seems so strange to me!
I am glad you have more time to find a daycare so your dad gets a day to himself once in a while.
Oh, and I am jealous you have your dad to take care of Cooper!! :)
Umm.. Just reading your post makes me feel incredibly uneasy about that place. And for you to call attention to her...neglect... and for her to further... neglect... ouch. That's just inappropriate. I agree with Katie on the basic needs thing. Not to mention, since when do "they" feel like "they" can take it upon themselves to break someone ELSE'S child of a habit? Now I'm getting all amped up..
Yikes!!! I am not a mom, but this definitely sounds like a go with your gut situation ;). Glad it worked out!
Trying to BREAK her of being held?! Yeah, that place sucks. And I still think the fines are bananas, even if they're normal. BANANAS!
Hi.. Just popping over from Katie's blog. I am a teacher and I cant believe what the worker did! How could you "just let him/her cry it out"? You cant "break" a kid from that. GRRRR It makes me mad. Not all teachers are like that I promise!!!! I hope everything works out.
Yea I would have walked right on out of there. I can't believe she didn't go check on that child. Not okay. Good for you for high tailing it out of there!
I still can't believe this! So glad you don't have to deal with it right now!! : ) Cooper can come play with us if you ever get in a bind!!
I think you just totally have to go with your intuition/gut on the whole daycare thing. The first place we toured (that had been HIGHLY recommended) left a bad taste in my mouth: the tour guide was perfectly nice and the children looked happy, but there was just something that felt "off" to me and I left with tears in my eyes. If it doesn't feel right, it's not. I'm sure you guys will find a perfect place that makes you feel comfortable, but glad you don't have to mess with that for now!
Dude. What a crazy person! I'll say some prayers you guys find a good place!
